I am an Egyptian journalist, writer, editor and photographer.
In this portfolio, you will find some of my investigative reporting,
reviews, columns, news and features.
Although interested in virtually everything under the sun, my focus has been on art, culture, social phenomena, gender and environmental issues, travel and tourism, as well as profiles.
As an editor, give me a dull and disjointed piece and I will transform it into an attractive and coherent article. Magic!

Most of my work was originally published in Al-Ahram Weekly, starting 1994. To my shock and horror, I discovered that the Weekly no longer has digital archives. What you will find here are the pieces I have recently salvaged from across the Internet. Should you find any other articles of mine online, I entreat you to let me know.
"I do not want my house to be walled in on all sides and my windows to be stuffed. I want the cultures of all the lands to be blown about my house as freely as possible. But I refuse to be blown off my feet by any."
